Our HIV test
At Home Diagnostics we are able to provide you with 4th generation HIV testing, which is the latest type of test available. The 4th generation test can detect an antigen signalling an HIV infection as early as ten days after you have been exposed to HIV. It can take 6 weeks for this antigen to be expressed in a blood sample so, if you get a negative result before the six-week point, you should have another test after that point has been reached.
How do we get your test to you?
When you buy a HIV test online, you can choose a shipping option. You can choose from First Class Royal Mail or choose Royal Mail Special Delivery, which is guaranteed to arrive the next day if you live in the UK. We are also able to offer international shipping options for delivery within Europe.
How does the 4th Generation HIV test work?
Home Diagnostics will supply you with a simple-to-use kit, which collects the required sample using a finger prick called a lancet. This is virtually painless and only draws a tiny amount of blood: literally a few drops. This is collected in a specially designed chamber. Simply put the kit back into the prepaid envelope, which we supply, and send it to our lab. Once the lab has received your sample it usually takes just four hours to process your results.
Is the Packaging discreet?
We understand that STI testing is a private and sensitive matter. For this reason, all the packaging that we use is extremely discreet. There is no mention of us on the outside of the packaging so no one will have any idea of what is inside the envelope. As well as this, all packaging is marked private and confidential.
How will I get my results back?
Your results will be put onto your patient profile, which only you can access. We do not send out your results by post unless you specifically ask for this to be done. If the result comes back positive then we will provide you with access to a doctor and you will be given information about the closest clinic where you can have a confirmation test from a venous sample. All positive HIV tests require a confirmation test – this is standard medical procedure.
Treatments for HIV
We are unable to provide you with HIV treatments here at Home Diagnostics; no online medical provider would be able to do this. Treatments for HIV have advanced considerably over the last few years. They are highly effective and produce excellent results if you start your treatment as early as possible.
